What is Qurbani?
Qurbani (also known as Udhiyah) is the Islamic act of sacrificing an animal during the days of Eid ul-Adha — the 10th, 11th, and 12th of Dhul Hijjah. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah, and is obligatory on every eligible Muslim adult.
Who Must Give Qurbani?
Qurbani is wajib (obligatory) for every adult Muslim who possesses wealth equal to or above the nisab threshold on the days of Eid ul-Adha. One share of Qurbani is required per adult — a sheep or goat counts as one share, while a cow or camel can be shared between seven people.
