By the time a dedicated appeal is launched, photographed, written, approved and shared — days have passed. Sometimes a week. In humanitarian terms, that is an eternity. Children become severely dehydrated. Families lose what little shelter they have. Lives that could have been saved are lost.

Why unrestricted giving saves lives
Most charity donations are restricted — given to a specific country, project or campaign. Restricted gifts are vital, and we are deeply grateful for them. But they cannot move.
If a flood hits a country we do not have an open appeal for, restricted funds cannot help. If a programme costs £4,800 to run for a month and a campaign raises £4,200, restricted funds cannot fill the gap. If an emergency demands medicine that wasn’t on the original budget line, restricted funds cannot reach it.
